Privacy Notice
What data we collect
- Your nickname and email address, when you register
- A securely hashed version of your password (never the actual password)
- Groups you create or join, and their members
- Expenses you add: description, amount, currency, who paid, and how it's split
- Settlement records between group members
Why we collect it
Purely to run the app's core function: letting you and your group track and split shared expenses. We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell it to anyone.
Who else sees it
- Other members of your groups can see expenses, balances, and settlements within groups you share with them.
- Frankfurter (exchange rate API) receives only currency codes (e.g. "CHF", "EUR") when we convert between currencies — never your personal data.
- Brevo (email provider) processes your email address in order to send you password reset links.
How your data is protected
- Passwords are hashed and never stored or logged in plain text.
- The site is served over HTTPS.
- Password reset links expire after 1 hour.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, or delete your data at any time by contacting us at settlepeak@protonmail.ch. Deleting your account will remove your login credentials; expense history shared with others in a group may be retained so their own records stay accurate, unless you specifically request full removal.
No liability for disputes
This app helps track and calculate who owes what, but we can't be held responsible for disagreements between users about actual payments made outside the app. Always confirm settlements directly with the people involved.
